New pharmacy building for Townsville uni

21 August 2007 Print this article Comments Share this article
The Townsville campus of James Cook University (JCU) is building a brand new facility for its pharmacy students.

The new building will include “state-of-the-art” multipurpose teaching facilities to train students in clinical pharmacy, pharmacy practice, pharmaceutical technology, compounding and aseptic dispensing.

In addition, research facilities in both the pharmaceutical sciences and pharmacy practice will afford pharmacy at JCU the opportunity to broaden its scope in terms of postgraduate courses.

Videoconferencing facilities will support the continuing professional development program, a collaborative effort between the local community, hospital and academic pharmacists, administered by the Queensland branch of the Pharmaceutical Society of Australia. This will allow events scheduled in Townsville to reach Cairns, Mackay and Mt Isa.

Occupation of the new facilities is planned for the beginning of 2009, a decade after the commencement of the pharmacy program at JCU.
