Vampire Cup up for grabs

THE National Australian Pharmacy Students’ Association has joined the Australian Red Cross Blood Service to encourage pharmacy students to donate blood.

Universities will compete for the Vampire Cup by donating blood during the six weeks from 20 August to 28 September.

Donations will be added up and the university with the highest percentage of blood donors will be crowned Vampire Cup Champions 2007.

The winners will be presented with the Cup at the NAPSA Congress in January 2008.

“Research has shown that many Australians donate when they are at high school, but lapse when they go to university, so this competition is aimed at re-engaging with students and highlighting how easy and worthwhile donating blood is,” said Pip Hetzel of the Australian Red Cross Blood Service.

“It’s also an opportunity to get Australia’s health professionals of the future committed to donating blood and becoming role models for the communities they work within,” she said.

Brooke Myers, outgoing NAPSA president, said: “This is a great opportunity for all of us to get together and give something back to the community.
