New aspirin exclusive to pharmacy
A new low dose aspirin that carries the Heart Foundation logo is now available to pharmacy only.
DailyDoseAspirin is part of a fundraising initiative by the Heart Foundation. It will feature the well-known Heart Foundation logo and the charity will receive 25 cents from the sale of every packet to help support vital lifesaving research, education and health promotion programs.
"This is a new concept for Australian consumers so we believe it is important for a pharmacist to be available to provide advice on the product. We hope people using aspirin will consider choosing DailyDoseAspirin, knowing their purchase will also support the Heart Foundation’s lifesaving research and education," said Heart Foundation chief executive Dr Lyn Roberts.
DailyDoseAspirin has been approved by the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) to "reduce the risk of heart attacks and strokes in patients with known cardiovascular disease or cerebrovascular disease by helping to prevent blood clotting".
Dr Roberts said the DailyDoseAsprin is in line with the Heart Foundation’s recommendations for secondary prevention.
"In addition to other lifestyle and medical recommendations, the Heart Foundation recommends aspirin on medical advice as a secondary prevention measure for people with cardiovascular disease."
A similar product to DailyDoseAspirin has been available in New Zealand through pharmacies and supermarkets for the past eight years. Dr Roberts said it had helped the New Zealand Heart Foundation boost funding for vital cardiovascular disease education and research.
DailyDoseAsprin contains 100mg of aspirin and is enteric coated. It is available in packs of 30 and 90.
