A retail pharmacy chain has defended its decision to stock sex toy products on its shelves against accusations of immorality and exploitation from a family advocate group.
The Australian Family Association (AFA) has condemned the National Pharmacies and Priceline stores for stocking a Durex brand vibrator product as a sexual health aid.
National Pharmacies has stocked the products for a number of years and has advertised them in its previous Mother’s Day and Christmas catalogues.
The company's general manager of merchandising, Neil Rittalick, said they have sold "hundreds" and have received "very few complaints from individuals".
The AFA's John Morrissey, however, said stocking the products in pharmacies was inappropriate and would encourage their use amongst children.
