Pharmacy wants better IR protection

The Federal Government's award modernisation will have a negative impact on pharmacy and will lead to job losses and business closures, the Pharmacy Guild of Australia has warned.
The peak pharmacy owners' body has called on the Government to better protect pharmacy in its award framework and impose a five-year transition period on the Pharmacy Industry Award 2010 currently before the Australian Industrial Relations Commission (AIRC).
In its submission to the AIRC lodged on Friday, the Guild said the Pharmacy Industry Award (PIA) was not economically sustainable and called for major amendments, in particular to part-time and casual employee provisions and penalty rates.
