WA Asthma Action Plan adopted nationally

New national guidelines are being rolled out to remove inconsistencies in the way community pharmacies handle over-the-counter (OTC) asthma reliever medication.
The guidelines were developed after University of WA PhD researcher Carl Schneider identified discrepancies in the approaches taken by different pharmacists to advising patients on asthma medication.
The new Asthma Action Plan and Beta Agonist Guidelines for pharmacists have already been introduced in WA. They are now set to be rolled out nationally, said Professor Kim Watkins from the University of WA and project officer in charge of the launch.
