Female pharmacists may generally earn less than their male counterparts, however they significantly outperform them on depth of clinical knowledge, new Australian survey results show.
The survey published in the International Journal of Pharmacy Practice, analysed 433 community pharmacists and 111 undergraduate pharmacy student’s clinical knowledge and ability to detect and resolve drug-related problems based on a clinical knowledge measurement tool.
The decision tool included nine clinical cases with seven multiple-choice statements based on common scenarios found in Australian community pharmacies.
Commenting on the results, lead author, Mackenzie Williams from the School of Pharmacy at the University of Tasmania, said female pharmacists had a “significantly” higher clinical knowledge survey score than their male counterparts.
