Australian health professionals and organisations received more than $2.2 million in funding from drug manufacturer, GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) Australia, the company announced.
A breakdown of the payments revealed individual pharmacists, doctors and other health professionals were given $287,384 in relation to attending domestic and international conferences and symposia.
GSK paid $372,695 to health professionals for work on clinical development advisory boards and for “speaker presentations”, with $1.5 million being paid to health related organisation in sponsorship, donations or grants.
Deborah Waterhouse, GSK Australia, general manager of pharmaceuticals, said the disclosure of payments to health care professionals was company policy.
