Australia’s medicines use census highlights the need for pharmacists to engage consumers about their medications, experts believe.
Speaking to Pharmacy News, both Grant Kardachi, PSA national president, and Debbie Rigby, NPS board director, said the NPS 24-hour snapshot of medicines use in Australians aged 50 years and above, highlighted the importance of Home Medicines Reviews (HMRs).
Ms Rigby said the findings of the census showed the need for pharmacists to promote HMRs to consumers under the age of 65.
“Looking at the stats for HMRs... the majority of HMRs (over 75 per cent) have been done in people over the age of 65,” she said.
