Osteo patients confused over vitamin D intake

The majority of patients with osteoporosis admit they are uncertain over the recommended vitamin D and calcium daily intake for optimum bone health, new Australian survey results show.
Findings from the ‘2011 Osteoporosis: attitudes, perceptions and behaviours’ survey, showed 71 per cent of patients reported they “weren’t sure” what the recommended daily dietary intake (RDI) for calcium was. A third were “not sure” if their current treatment plan was right for them.
Of the 250 adults, aged 55 years and over with osteoporosis and who were taking medications prescribed by healthcare professionals, 73 per cent were unsure they were receiving the recommended dietary intake of vitamin D.
