PSA seeks funding for pharmacist mental health role

For the second successive year the PSA is pushing for Federal Government funding for its Mental Health Liaison Pharmacist project.
In its 2012/13 Budget submission, the PSA called on the Government to provide $6.3 million for the introduction of a pilot program aimed at improving health outcomes in targeted population groups by employing pharmacists.
Grant Kardachi (pictured), PSA national president, said the submission built on the PSA’s calls for an investment in mental health care that links the needs of people with chronic conditions to health reform.
“A liaison pharmacist program would help people with mental health problems transition between acute care, back into the community where most of their care is provided,” he said.
