Supermarkets may soon have access to another high-selling pharmacy product, with the Advisory Committee on Medicines Scheduling (ACMS) recommending allergy medicine, Telfast (fexofenadine), be exempt from scheduling.
However pharmacy leaders have been critical of the proposal, with Tim Logan, president of the Queensland branch of the Pharmacy Guild of Australia, saying opening access to the treatment may not benefit the manufacturers or patients.
The recommendation made by the ACMS was for small packs of 10 dosage units or less of the 120mg/day version of the product to be rescheduled from S2 to exempt for the treatment of adults and children aged 12 years and older.
