Transparency key to new MA Code of Conduct

Health care stakeholders are calling for greater transparency regarding patient support programs in the new Medicines Australia Code of Conduct.
Submissions made by the PSA and the Consumers Health Forum (CHF) highlighted concerns over payments to pharmacists for recruiting consumers to manufacturer-sponsored patient support programs.
In its submission the CHF was critical that under the current code pharmacists and pharmaceutical companies could enter into financial relationships without any obligation for either party to disclose such deals to consumers.
“CHF argues that any financial arrangements that are not openly disclosed are unlikely to withstand public and professional scrutiny, as the code dictates,” the CHF submission said.
