Confusion over Reductil recall

Pharmacists are complaining of being left out of the loop on the withdrawal of Reductil (sibutramine) after finding out about the recall in the Sunday papers.
Distribution of a fax telling pharmacists that manufacturer Abbott had decided to withdraw the drug from the market following safety concerns commenced on Monday, after the announcement had made headline news.
Initial statements from Abbott and the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) were posted on-line on Friday at 5.30pm AEDT.
A spokeswoman for Abbott told Pharmacy eNews the company had sent the fax to pharmacists as soon as it had been approved by the TGA.
