TGA update on pain killer cancellation 
The Therapeutics Goods Administration (TGA) has issued an update about the regulatory status of dextropoxyphene-containing pain killers following a preliminary decision by the Administrative Appeal Tribunal (AAT).
The TGA, said their position regarding the “poor safety and efficacy profile” of the four pain killers: Capadex, Di-Gesic, Doloxene and Paradex, had not changed as a result of the AAT’s preliminary decision.
In December 2011, the TGA decided to cancel the painkillers from the Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods (ARTG), from 1 March 2012.
The TGA found the safety risks of using painkillers containing dextropoxyphene outweighed the benefits that may be provided by use of these medicines.
