Online ECP sales horrifying: Guild

Reports that Australian women are buying stocks of an emergency contraceptive pill (ECP) online are a sad indictment of society according to Pharmacy Guild president Kos Sclavos.
Speaking to Pharmacy eNews, Mr Sclavos described the purchase of the ECP, EllaOne, which has not been approved for use in Australia by the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA), as a systemic misuse of medicine.
“These medications by their very nature are for emergency use.
“It’s a sad indictment on our society if people are deliberately having those on hand at home to access,” he said.
Mr Sclavos said the report that Australian consumers could be buying stocks of the drug through UK websites was a “particular concern” for the Guild.
