The influenza vaccine is helpful in reducing serious symptoms of the flu, even when immunised patients contract the virus, a study shows.

Patients vaccinated against influenza, but admitted to hospital with the virus, are less likely to end up in ICU or die from the infection, researchers from the University of Barcelona report.
